Throat cancer is form of cervical cancer, which occurs in the throat, i.e. the upper part of the throat behind the nose.
The nasopharynx is “precarious” at the base of the skull, above the palate. Pine nostrils with the palate. When you breathe, the air enters the nose and goes to the throat and palate, then enters the lungs.
Throat cancer is also called the pharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).
Causes of throat cancer
Scientists are unsure about the exact causes of throat cancer. However, this cancer is closely related to the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). Although EBV infection is very common, not all EBV infections will have a throat cancer.
The risk of throat cancer can come from meat and salted fish. Tobacco and alcohol are also on the causative list despite the relationship between them and the throat cancer is not crisp. Some scientists believe that chemical substances in tobacco and alcohol destroy DNA in the cell.
Who is easy to throat cancer?
According to the American Cancer Society, less than 1/100,000 Americans have this type of cancer. But the throat cancer often occurs more frequently in southern China and Southeast Asia.
You will get a throat cancer if you are:
-Eating meat and salted fish
-People with throat cancer
-There are certain genes associated with the development of cancer
-EBV virus Infection
-Exposure to wood dust or chemical formaldehyde
Symptoms of throat cancer
-There are tumors in the nose or neck
-Blood in saliva
-Difficulty breathing or difficulty speaking
-Frequent ear infections
Note that the above symptoms may warn other diseases, which are less dangerous than throat cancer. If you have any signs, go to the medical facility. Only a doctor can make conclusions that you have a throat cancer.
Methods of diagnosing pharyngeal cancer
-Health Checkup and medical biography: your doctor will ask about your symptoms, biography and family, and then will check the body to examine the signs of disease such as swelling of the lymph nodes in the neck or anything else that looks Unusual.
-Biopsy: The doctor will use the microscope to view cells or tissues to examine the signs of cancer. Doctors often take tissue samples during endoscopic nose;
-Test: Including computer tomography (CT), Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET), X-ray.
Stages of disease and prognosis
If you are diagnosed with throat cancer, doctors will give you other tests to see where the cancer has spread. This is called the disease stage.
Throat cancer is divided from Phase 1 (the earliest period) until Stage 4 (the latest period).
Prognosis for each stage: 5-year survival rate for each disease period varies, according to a study in the US in 2010.
Treatments for throat cancer
The doctor will choose the method of treatment and the prognosis depends on factors such as disease stage, type of disease, tumor size, age and health of the sick.
The doctor will use three standard treatment methods, including:
-Radiation therapy: use high-energy beams, such as X-rays or proton beam, to kill cancer cells;
-Chemotherapy: Doctors take medications that use chemicals to kill cancer cells. Chemotherapy drugs may be in pill form, intravenous infusion or both. Your doctor may use chemotherapy to treat throat cancer at the same time, after or before radiotherapy;
-Surgery: Doctors often do not conduct surgery to treat throat cancer. However, the doctor can use this method to get rid of cancer of lymph nodes in the neck.
Is throat cancer preventable?
In many cases, the throat cancer can not be prevented but you take steps to reduce the risk of the disease.
-Avoid eating fish and salted meat
-Do not drink alcohol
